Short answer
Zoho AgentInbox is email infrastructure built only for AI agents, opened for early access in September 2026. What Is Zoho AgentInbox?
In its launch announcement dated 24 September 2026, Zoho opened early access to AgentInbox and described it as “email infrastructure built exclusively for AI agents”. The product page calls it enterprise-grade email for autonomous AI workflows.
The idea is simple. AI agents increasingly need to send follow-ups, receive replies, sign up for services and read verification codes. Until now, most teams either borrowed a human's mailbox or bolted together a send-only API. AgentInbox gives the agent a first-class identity instead.
Why not just use a person's mailbox?
Zoho's product page makes four arguments that are worth repeating to any manager who asks why this is needed:
- Recovery risk. A personal inbox is the master key for resetting many other accounts, so handing it to an agent widens the blast radius.
- Credential isolation. An agent should have its own keys that can be revoked without locking out a person.
- Legal clarity. Messages from your account are treated as your commitments, so an agent writing as you is a liability.
- Audit trails. A dedicated mailbox keeps a clean record of what the agent did and when.
Zoho's help documentation adds a practical point: conventional consumer email providers ask for human verification steps that an agent simply cannot complete.
Zoho AgentInbox Features, Verified
Everything below comes from Zoho's launch blog, the features page and the help guide, as read on 3 October 2026.
Agent mailboxes, threads and attachments
Mailboxes are provisioned programmatically at runtime. You can scope one to a user, a workflow or a single task run, then drop it when the job ends. Each mailbox keeps a permanent address if you need persistence.
Incoming mail arrives as structured threads rather than loose messages, and attachments are accessible as soon as mail lands. The REST API covers mailboxes, domains, nested folders, messages, drafts and threads, including search, labels, flags, archive, spam and forward.
Deliverability and domains
SPF and DKIM records are generated for you, and the help guide walks through verifying SPF, DKIM and MX with ongoing status monitoring. Sending domains can be isolated per environment, product line or agent, so one noisy agent does not hurt the reputation of another.
Bounces, spam complaints and failures surface in real time. If your existing domain already has delivery issues, fix them first using our guide to Zoho emails going to spam.
Webhooks in real time
Instead of polling, your code subscribes to events such as email.received, thread.replied and email.bounced, filtered by mailbox or domain. Payloads are HMAC-signed, failed deliveries retry at increasing intervals, and every attempt is logged.

Security, keys and access
Each agent gets its own API key, so revoking one leaves the others running; Zoho says revocation takes effect in under a second. OAuth with auto-rotating tokens covers user-delegated scenarios. Data is protected with AES-256 and TLS 1.3, and the features FAQ states that email data is never used to train any AI model.
Developer tools: REST API and MCP
A REST API and a built-in MCP server are available now; MCP tools let agents send, receive, label and manage mail. Official Python and Node.js SDKs, a CLI and agent-framework integrations are marked coming soon. If you already use Zoho's MCP platform, our Zoho MCP vs Zia Agents comparison explains where each fits.
Logs, replay and dashboard
You get an end-to-end timeline for every email from queue to open or bounce, API request logs with payload, response, latency and key used, and webhook replay that does not re-trigger live actions. The dashboard tracks volume, spam, bounces, webhook and API health, and domain and agent status.

7 Proven Wins of Zoho AgentInbox
- Clean identity. Every agent has its own address, so customers and auditors know a message came from an agent.
- Smaller blast radius. One key per agent means a leaked key affects one agent, not your whole team.
- Two-way conversations. Agents receive and reply in threads, not just fire one-way notifications.
- No polling. Signed webhooks wake your workflow the moment a reply or bounce arrives.
- Protected reputation. Domain isolation keeps experiments away from your main sending domain.
- Full traceability. Delivery traces, API logs and safe replay make debugging and audits easier.
- Low entry cost. A free plan for pilots, then a per-mailbox price that is easy to forecast.
Zoho AgentInbox vs a Shared Mailbox vs a Transactional Email Service
Zoho's own FAQ frames the difference neatly: Zoho Mail is built for people, while AgentInbox is built for code. Transactional APIs send system mail to humans, whereas with AgentInbox the agent owns the mailbox.
| Capability | Shared human mailbox | Transactional email service | Zoho AgentInbox |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary user | People | Applications sending notifications | AI agents |
| Receives and threads replies | Yes, for humans | Usually limited or add-on | Yes, structured threads via API |
| Credentials | Shared password or delegated access | One key per app | One key per agent, instant revoke |
| Provisioning | Manual, by an admin | Sender set up once | On demand through the API |
| Event triggers | Rules and filters | Delivery webhooks | Signed webhooks for mail, replies and bounces |
| Agent tooling | None | API only | REST API plus MCP server |
| Best for | Team communication | Receipts, OTPs, alerts | Agents that hold conversations |
You will still need a human mail suite for staff; see our Zoho Mail business email guide. The agent platform sits beside it, not in place of it.
Zoho AgentInbox Pricing in INR
The official pricing page lists INR prices for India. As read on 3 October 2026:
| Item | Free | AgentInbox Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Price | ₹0 | ₹90 per mailbox/month billed annually (US$1); ₹108 billed monthly (US$1.20) |
| Mailboxes | 5 | No limit |
| Emails per mailbox per month | 2,000 incoming + 2,000 outgoing | 10,000 incoming + 10,000 outgoing |
| Outgoing rate limit | 100 per day | 1,000 per day |
| Storage | 1 GB | 5 GB |
| Custom domains | 1 | 100 (as listed on 3 Oct 2026) |
| Admin users | 5 | 50 |
| Support | Standard | Priority |
As a worked example, 10 agent mailboxes on Pro billed annually cost 10 x ₹90 x 12 = ₹10,800 a year. Zoho says you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time, and the free plan runs on the same infrastructure as Pro. For higher limits, Zoho asks you to contact its presales team.
INR figures are Zoho's official listed prices; US$ values are Zoho's own USD list. Confirm tax treatment at checkout.
Gotcha: early-access details are still moving
Zoho's pages differ in places. The home FAQ says the free plan includes “2,000 emails per month”, while the pricing FAQ says 4,000 split between incoming and outgoing. Older listings showed fewer Pro domains, and pages still show “Join waitlist”. Confirm limits in your account before you design around them.

Zoho AgentInbox Use Cases for Indian Businesses
Zoho lists roles such as SDR, executive assistant, onboarding specialist, accounting clerk and HR coordinator. Here is how those map to common Indian workflows.
| Workflow | What the agent does | Zoho apps around it |
|---|---|---|
| Sales follow-ups | Sends first replies to web enquiries, chases quotes, logs responses | Zoho CRM leads and deals |
| Customer support | Acknowledges emails, gathers order details, hands complex cases to staff | Zoho Desk tickets |
| Invoices and collections | Owns the invoice inbox, reads attachments, sends polite payment reminders | Zoho Books invoices |
| Customer onboarding | Collects KYC documents and GSTIN, escalates gaps to a human | Zoho CRM, Zia Agents |
| HR coordination | Schedules interviews and gathers candidate paperwork | Zoho Recruit or People |

Connecting it to Zoho CRM, Desk, Books and Zia Agents
As of 3 October 2026, Zoho has not announced a native connector between AgentInbox and Zoho CRM, Desk or Books. The practical route today is the REST API and webhooks, for example a Deluge function that calls the API, or a webhook handler that writes replies back to CRM. Our Deluge scripting guide and Zoho CRM API tutorial cover the building blocks.
If you build agents in Zia Agent Studio, AgentInbox can act as their email layer through the API or MCP; test the hand-off carefully. Zia Agents pricing is free to build, with 30 million free tokens a month on Standard models, then approx. ₹96 (US$1) per million tokens, converted at approx. ₹96.3 per US$1.
Governance, Security and DPDP Compliance
Giving an agent an inbox is giving it the power to speak for your company. Keep a human in the loop for anything that commits money, changes terms or handles complaints. Zoho's own onboarding example escalates to a person when the agent gets stuck.
- Use one mailbox and key per agent, and name addresses clearly, such as billing-agent@ your domain.
- Assign Admin only to the few people who manage keys; give others the Viewer role.
- Review the activity log, API logs and bounce reports weekly.
- Write approval rules for refunds, discounts and contract language.
- Set retention rules so agent mailboxes do not keep personal data longer than needed.
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules notified on 14 November 2025, organisations have an 18-month phased timeline to comply, including clear consent notices, breach reporting and responding to data requests within 90 days. Agent mailboxes hold personal data, so include them in your data map.
Zoho's data centre page lists Mumbai and Chennai for India, but Zoho has not stated which regions host AgentInbox. Confirm with Zoho before storing sensitive customer data, and read our Zoho data privacy guide.
